The classic white button-down shirt. It’s a closet staple. But I’ve always had a tough time finding one that’s form-fitting and not too boxy… until now.
Labor Day may have passed, but it’s still definitely summer here in the Arizona desert! We reached 100 degrees most of this week, so I’m basking in casual mode. And that’s why I can’t get enough of this effortless, breezy top.
I came across this James Perse white shirt while looking for deals at Saks Off 5th earlier this summer. It caught my eye because it actually looked small enough to fit my frame.
Most white shirts, even in the smallest sizes, tend to be too broad for my shoulders and torso. The excess fabric makes everything look billowy and unflattering. And I end up looking boxy.
But not with this shirt. What a breath of fresh air! It comes in sizes 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4. I’m wearing a size 0 here.
With its form-fitting cut and snug sleeves, it feels perfectly tailored for a petite body. It has tapered side paneling that helps create a nipped-in-at-the-waist look. I love that the fitted silhouette adds a little flair to this classic piece.
It’s very thin, lightweight, and definitely more casual than the kind of white button-down shirt I’d wear to work, so I’d stick to weekend wear with this top. The fabric is 100% cotton, making it breathable for summer.
By the way, since the hot weather is sticking around for a while here, I’ve been getting a chance to get more wear out of my summer accessories, like my white sunglasses (Simply Vera by Vera Wang) and espadrille wedges (Saks Fifth Avenue). Might as well max out my summer wardrobe while it’s still sizzling outside!
As for the jeans, well, this is one of my kids’ store finds. You’ve probably walked by the bright teeny-bopper store “Justice” in the mall. It used to be called Limited Too. I have to admit it’s so awkward shopping for jeans in a store that also sells glittery stickers, unicorn pillows, and boy band souvenirs. But their jeans fit, and they’re priced lower than adult clothing stores. So over the years, I’ve ended up buying several “youth size 12-slims,” which is what I’m wearing here.
But I’m in the process now of revamping my denim collection. The older I get, the more I feel I should get out of my kid-store comfort zone, and find a pair of adult jeans that fit me, once and for all! I think no matter what your size, well-fitting jeans are so challenging to shop for. Amazingly, I’ve found some recently that fit surprisingly well, and I look forward to sharing them with you very soon!
